Pre-School 3-4 years

Children Aged 3 – 4 Years, Pre School Development

Preparation for School

We encourage our children to develop their imagination and enjoy themselves. We also help them to develop independence, so that they can learn by trying childcare in wiganthings out for themselves. We provide hands on opportunities to develop confidence through exploration, investigation and problem solving. The children are encouraged to think for themselves, to act responsibly and to participate in all of the activities set within the room.

At Little Acorns Nursery we also focus on developing our childrens’ personal characteristics:-

  • A positive attitude, with an enthusiasm for learning
  • Self-confidence to tackle the exciting challenges of school
  • Strong listening skills
  • Curiosity and confidence to ask questions and so enhance learning
  • Respect for other people
  • Comfortable in social situations, talking with both adults and children
  • A well developed level of independence

We believe that these attributes prepare our pre-school children for the progression from nursery to school. Our aim is to give our children a well balanced foundation from which they can then go on to shape the rest of their lives.

“Children show concern when others are upset and give the names of items to children for whom English is an additional language. They show kindness and bring enough items to the table for all involved. They share and take turns well. Childrens’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is fostered by this positive approach to relationships”

Language & Speech Development

Much of this work is done through conversation; explaining, listening to them, singing with them and sharing stories This helps the children to become articulate and broaden their vocabulary. Having gained and developed these skills, the next stage, reading, will flow naturally.

The children are given time to role play and enjoy each others company. At meal times we teach table manners and correct use of cutlery. They also learn to cope in the bathroom and dress themselves as well as they are able.
